Newly Launched New Plan To Alleviate Prostate Hyperplasia - Pumpkin Seed Extract

Recently, a new open center study showed that pumpkin seeds have a positive effect on symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The research results show that Frutarom Health's pumpkin seed product Go Less Men (EFLA 940) starts to have a positive impact after only 4 weeks of consumption. During the remaining research period, this effect was further enhanced.

Prostate hyperplasia is an age-related disease where the prostate is enlarged but not cancerous. According to data from the American Urology Nursing Foundation, prostate hyperplasia is particularly common among men aged 51 to 60, affecting half of the population; Among males aged 80 and above, the incidence of the disease is as high as 90%. Benign prostatic hyperplasia can cause a significant burden of disease and have a significant impact on quality of life.

This study, led by Martin Leibbrand et al., titled "Effects of oil-free ethanol pumpkin seed extract on symptom frequency and severity in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia", was published in the Journal of Pharmaceutical and Food in April 2019. This study was conducted at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Graz, Austria, and involved 60 males (with an average age of 62.3 years) who had moderate or severe BPH symptoms for at least 6 months.

The subjects were required to take one tablet containing 500 milligrams of Go Less Men (EFLA 940) daily for three consecutive months. After 4, 8, and 12 weeks, participants were monitored using the International Prostate Symptom Scale (IPSS) to track the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

The results showed that daily intervention with 500 milligrams of Go Less Men (EFLA 940) significantly reduced the total IPSS and BPH related symptoms in just four weeks: 35.7% of men reported symptoms improving from "moderate/severe" to "mild". After the intervention, there      was a significant reduction in nocturia and residual urine volume after urination.Moran Werner Saido, product manager of Frutarom Health, explained that as the prostate gland expands, the urethra becomes narrow, leading to bladder blockage. This may ultimately lead to worsening of lower urinary tract symptoms, including difficulty urinating, which may have a negative impact on quality of life. In most male cases with mild to moderate symptoms, BPH is not actively treated and is monitored through annual physical examinations. At this stage, using plant-based therapies such as pumpkin seed extract to support bladder function may be appropriate.

The monographs of the E Committee of the German Federal Institute of Drugs and Medical Devices, THMP, and ESCOP recognize the suitability of pumpkin seeds for the treatment of BPH related urinary difficulties and bladder allergies.

It is understood that Go Less Men (EFLA 940) is a plant extract derived from defatted pumpkin seeds. It is obtained through a water ethanol extraction solvent and a proprietary decontamination program (EFLA Hyperpure), ensuring that it is free of grease, increasing stability, purity, solubility, and eliminating rancidity. Researchers have found that it contains a unique combination of cucurbitacin and polyphenolic compounds, which can provide positive health benefits.

It is reported that this new study was conducted after previous studies demonstrated the clinical efficacy of Go Less Men (EFLA 940) in people who frequently urinate at night. Pumpkin seed extract EFLA 940 can be conveniently used in dietary supplements and health products.
