Lycopene Usage area in the world

China has approved synthetic lycopene (INS No. 160D) as a colorant (GB 2760-2011 standard for the use of food additives) for beverages (except packaged drinking water), with a maximum dosage of 15mg / kg; Candy, maximum dosage 60mg / kg; Solid soup, maximum usage 390mg / kg; Semi solid compound seasoning, 40mg / kg (the above is calculated by pure lycopene). Lycopene is also used in health food with antioxidant and immune functions. In 2006, the Joint FAO / WHO Expert Committee on food additives (JECFA) considered that lycopene can be used as a pigment and nutrient supplement.

In 2008, the European Union divided food supplements containing non vitamins and minerals into six categories (amino acids, enzymes, essential fatty acids, probiotics, plant derived substances and others), and lycopene was listed as "other categories". In 2009, it approved synthetic lycopene, natural lycopene and lycopene extracted from blakesleatrispora to enter the market as new food ingredients, and also approved lycopene oil products extracted from tomatoes as new food ingredients for special treatment.

Australia / New Zealand believes that lycopene extracted from tomato is neither a traditional food nor a new resource food, but it is determined that there is no safety problem. It has been approved as a food additive, No. 160D, and can be used as a colorant and dietary supplement.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) approved three sources of lycopene, namely tomato extract, Brassica trispora extract and synthetic lycopene (INS no.160d) as food colorants, and considered that it was not necessary to determine its ADI value.

In 2006, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (USA) conducted a risk assessment on Lycopene and proposed that the "observed safe level (OSL)" was 75mg/d. The evaluation is based on more than 30 human intervention experimental studies published and peer-reviewed before 2006. In these experiments, the highest dose was 150mg / D (intake for 7 consecutive days); The second was 75 mg / D (15 healthy adults for 28 days); The longest duration was 140 days (13.3mg/d for healthy adults), and no adverse effects were observed, so the tolerable upper intake level (UL) could not be deduced. The OSL calculated according to the animal experimental data is 270mg / d.

With people's attention to dietary health, lycopene is becoming more and more popular. In addition, it has also attracted much attention in feed additives. The research shows that lycopene used in aquaculture can make aquatic animals bright in color and improve their quality; Carotenoid preparation made by mixing with lutein can prevent vitamin deficiency in animals. At this stage, the production of lycopene by microbial fermentation has a short production cycle and is not limited by site and season. Most of the raw materials used are low-cost food crops, low production cost, safe and non-toxic. With the deepening of research and the continuous emergence of innovative products in various fields, lycopene has a good application prospect.Contact Andy Biotech for more information needed.
