History of Rhodiola extract

Rhodiola has been used in traditional herbal medicines in the Carpathians of China, Siberia and Ukraine. In the former Soviet Union, it was used as an adaptive agent to reduce fatigue and enhance the body's natural resistance to various pressures. In Siberia, it is rumored that "drinking Rhodiola tea can live beyond 100 years old". Rhodiola has traditionally been used for sexual dysfunction in men and women. In the former Soviet Union, a popular preparation of this herb is a tincture called "nastojka", which is prepared by mixing fresh rhodiola root with 40% alcohol and placing it for a week. One teaspoon of "nastojka" after each meal is prescribed for patients with sexual dysfunction. In Siberia, especially in the cold and humid winter, people often take Rhodiola to prevent diseases. In Mongolia, it is used for the treatment of tuberculosis and cancer.

Main Function of Rhodiola extract

Enhance immune function

Rosavins stimulate the immune system in two ways: first, through direct special stimulation of immune defense (one of the most important types of immune cells: natural killer cells). NK cells search for and destroy infected cells in the body). Rhodiola extract can restore the immune system to normal by improving T-cell immunity. This shows that it can improve the body's resistance to the virus accumulated by the gradual development of infection. 2、 The machine body is not easily affected by pressure. When we are exposed to stress for a long time and continue to capture energy from other systems, the overall impact is reduced immune response and poor health. Rhodiola extract can also enhance B-cell immunity by preventing the inhibition of B-cell immunity due to stress and fatigue.

Melancholy

In animal experiments, Rhodiola extract named rosavin and salidroside showed an increase in the rate of transmission of serotonin precursors, tryptophan and 5-hydroxytryptophan into the brain. Serotonin is a kind of neurotransmitter widely studied in the brain. Unstable serotonin is associated with a variety of abnormal mental states, such as clinical depression. Therefore, Rhodiola was used by Soviet scientists alone or mixed with antidepressants to improve people's mental state, and became a valuable medicine for those who lived in countries and seasons where they could not get enough sunlight due to the extension of the monthly cycle. (for example, sad is seasonal depression, which is more common in northern European countries). In a public clinical trial to test the efficacy of Rhodiola extract in reducing depressive symptoms, 128 patients were given rhodiola extract. Rhodiola extract can effectively reduce or remove the depressive symptoms of 65% of patients.

Protect cardiovascular function

Rhodiola extract shows that it can alleviate cardiovascular tissue damage and functional disorder caused by stress. Rhodiola extract can prevent the decrease of cardiac contractility secondary to ambient pressure in the freezing state and help to stabilize contractility. Pretreatment with Rhodiola seems to trigger a beneficial adaptive response to this type of stress. When mice after taking Hongjing were exposed to rapid freezing, the decline of cardiac contractility was prevented, and the stable contractility of cardiac tissue continued during perfusion.

Other reports suggest that the use of Rhodiola extract can protect the cardiovascular tissue of rats under the release of catecholamine caused by stress and reduce the arrhythmia caused by adrenaline. The antiarrhythmic effect of Rhodiola extract is considered to be a secondary effect of its ability to induce opioid peptide biosynthesis and involves the excitation of peripheral kappa opioid receptors. Rhodiola extract has also shown efficacy against stress-induced or worsening heart problems. The effect on these conditions is based on its ability to reduce the total amount of catecholamines and steroids released by the adrenal gland due to stress. The abnormal secretion of these stress hormones can lead to the rise of blood pressure, cholesterol and potassium levels and increase the risk of heart disease. Rhodiola has been found to reduce harmful blood lipids and thus reduce the risk of heart disease. It also reduces the total amount of circulating AMP (c-AMP) released into heart cells. Circulating amp is related to ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the main energy supplying molecule in the human body. C-AMP acts as a 'second messenger' or a connecting substance between the internal and external environment of cells. It helps intracellular calcium flow into the heart, which greatly improves the potential energy of cardiac muscle contraction. Rhodiola thus regulates the beating of the heart and prevents arrhythmia.

Potent antioxidant

Rhodiola has effective antioxidant capacity [1]. By limiting the adverse effects of free radical injury, it can effectively resist diseases caused by aging.

Improve human function

Like Siberian ginseng, Rhodiola extract is often taken by athletes to improve human function. Although the mechanism is not fully understood, it seems to improve muscle / fat ratio and increase blood hemoglobin and red blood cell levels.

Antitumor activity

Taking rhodiola extract shows its potential as an anticancer drug and may be very effective in combination with several anticancer drugs. Mice transplanted with solidified Ehrlich adenocarcinoma and metastatic mouse Pulis lymphosarcoma inhibited the growth of all kinds of tumors, reduced metastasis to the liver and prolonged survival time when supplemented with rhodiola extract.. It can also directly inhibit the growth and metastasis of transplanted Lewis lung malignant tumor. When rhodiola extract and anti-tumor drug cyclophosphamide are combined to treat the same tumor model, the anti-tumor and anti metastasis effects of the drug are effectively improved. The existence of free radicals is related to cell mutation, the direct cause of cancer. In addition, Soviet scientists found that oral Rhodiola inhibited tumor growth in 39% of experimental rats and reduced metastasis in 50% of rats. It can improve urinary and immune functions in patients with bladder cancer. In the experiments of other kinds of cancers, including adenocarcinoma (adenocarcinoma breast cancer) and lung malignancy. Both Rhodiola extracts resulted in a significant increase in survival rate.

Improve sexual function

Rhodiola extract has been used to enhance sexual ability for a long time in Russian and far eastern cultures. In an open clinical trial involving 35 men suffering from erectile weakness, premature diarrhea or both, treated with 100-150mg rhodiola extract for 3 months, 26 of the 35 patients admitted that their sexual function had improved substantially.

Improve memory

In a controlled placebo experiment on the effect of Rhodiola extract on intellectual performance, 120 people were employed for a proofreading experiment. Subjects were tested before and after taking rhodiola extract or placebo. The records of the experimental group were significantly improved, while the controlled group did not change. Members of both groups were continuously tested for their ability to complete the proofreading test within 24 hours of taking the extract or placebo. The number of misspellings in the controlled group increased significantly, while the functional decline range of the group taking rhodiola extract was much smaller.

Dosage

Even at high doses, the potential toxicity of Rhodiola extract is only a quarter of that of Korean ginseng. In a double-blind clinical trial, the dose range of standard rhodiola extract was 100-170 mg per day, and the amount of rosavin contained in it was about 3.6-6.14 mg. The therapeutic dose of Rhodiola preparations should be determined according to the degree of standardization; In any case, as a long-term use, the amount of rosavin in the above range seems to be cautious. The general recommended dose is about 360-600 mg of Rhodiola extract containing standard 1% rosavin or 100-170 mg of extract containing standard 3.6% rosavin per day. As an adaptive agent, its long-term use should generally be taken in advance for several weeks to increase physiological, chemical and biological stress in advance, and continue to take it during the duration of antagonistic reaction or activity. When Rhodiola is taken alone for acute use (e.g. for testing or athlete competition). The recommended dose is 3 times that used for long-term use.

Saftey

If the dosage exceeds 800mg per day, it may lead to the following side effects: allergy, insomnia and unhappiness. No other side effects were found
